Alan Rhody is one of today's most respected solo acoustic singer-songwriters. In the Kentucky native's thirty-year career, he has established a reputation writing songs for such artists as Kevin Welch, Oak Ridge Boys, Del McCoury, Lorrie Morgan, George Jones, etc. Recently he has returned to his roots, touring and writing songs on a more personal level. www.alanrhody.com
Jenny Berkel’s deep, resonant smoky voice and truly poetic lyrics have been garnering fans ever since she started performing. In that time, she has played with bands The Wandering Goose and Lady o’Lakes, toured across Canada, busked on the streets of Paris and Belfast, and been nominated for two music awards. Accompanying Jenny is the talented Michelle Elrick, who will be adding her delicate banjo and soaring harmonies. www.myspace.com/jennyberkel
Hailed by everyone from Dave Van Ronk to Doc Watson, from the Washington Post to Downbeat, Dakota Dave Hull’s guitar style spans a wide musical geography to create an infectious, uniquely personal blend of jazz, ragtime, folk, blues, Western swing, and vintage pop. A gifted composer as well as a strikingly original interpreter of older tunes, Dakota Dave calls what he does "classic American guitar." Folk legend Van Ronk called Dave "one of the best guitarists in the world." www.dakotadavehull.com
Eileen McGann is widely acclaimed as one of the best contemporary Canadian songwriters, as well as one of the finest Celtic traditional singers anywhere. Add to this a singing voice described as "magnificent", "stunning" and "hauntingly beautiful", and you have an artist not to be missed. Eileen tours with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist sideman David K., on Irish bouzouki, bass, national tri-cone and harmony vocals. www.myspace.com/eileenmcgann
Tim Harrison is one of Canada's finest singers and songwriters on the folk music landscape today. His poignant themes and vivid images reveal him as a storyteller of our time, and his delightful wit and uncanny knack for storytelling make him an audience favorite. Enthusiastic response to his recordings and performances has led to tours across Canada, the United States, and the UK. www.timharrison.ca
The blues is a common thread that runs through virtually all of the music derived in the early American South and no one gets this connection better than internationally acclaimed singer and multi-instrumentalist Michael Jerome Browne. Browne performs everything from old Appalachian music to Chicago Blues with such captivating authenticity, that he has earned three Juno nominations in two distinct categories. He has performed at Carnegie Hall with Kate and Anna McGarrigle, in the studio with Taj Mahal and Eric Bib, and on tour with Guy Davis. Song Out magazine calls him “one of today's most accomplished interpreters of traditional music styles”. www.michaeljeromebrowne.com

Justin Bickford Memorial Mini Golf Tournament
Lacombe: Saturday, 06 August 2011 10:25
On Saturday August 20, 2011, the Bentley Firefighter’s Foundation will be hosting the Justin Bickford Memorial Mini Golf Tournament. The event will run from noon to 4:00 pm at the Summerland Leisure RV Park Mini Golf and Driving Range (RR 28-2 & Hwy 12- 11km west of Lacombe). The cost is $5/person for a game of mini golf. There will be variety of activities for children and food will be served. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Justin Bickford Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will be presented each year to a deserving Bentley School student.
The foundation is currently raising money for the Justin Bickford Bursary, an annual scholarship awarded to a deserving Bentley student. Justin Bickford, the son of two Bentley firefighters, died of cancer at the age of 13 in April 2011. A courageous young man who exhibited a sense of humour and who made a tremendous difference in the lives, Justin loved reaching out to others in need. The Bentley Firefighter’s Foundation decided that a $1,000.00 bursary would be an appropriate way to honour Justin’s memory and to help a student who is fits the following criteria: “Kind, sympathetic, loving, considerate, responsive, and shows compassion and exhibits concern and empathy for others.”
For more information, call Carolyn McLaren, President at 403-748-3144 or 403-704-3315.
