Winterfest 2008 was a ‘splashing’ success!
Sylvan Lake: Saturday, 16 February 2008 00:00
When it comes to donating to good causes, the residents of Sylvan Lake jump right in!
In fact, 33 of them jumped right into a freezing Sylvan Lake on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Annual Polar Bear Dip. Mother Nature tried her best to cooperate for the day. The sun was shining, but the wind was seriously frosty and blowing with brute force!
That didn’t stop the dedicated dippers from stripping down to their skivvies and giving their bodies the shock of a lifetime.
In total $10,666.57 was raised for various local non-profit groups and charities. Congratulations to everyone who took part – and thank you to everyone who braved the cold wind to cheer on our participants.
The money collected is being donated to the following organizations:
- Sylvan Lake Community Partners: $839.00
- Sylvan Lake Aquatics Centre: $2077.57
- 1st Sylvan Lake Cubs: $2201.00
- Youth Services: $557.00
- Sylvan Lake Fire Department: $1130.00
- Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey: $495.00
- Incline Youth: $2332.00
