Today, the newly formed Central Alberta Tourism Committee officially launched its 2008 marketing campaign. The marketing campaign is called Alberta Sweet 16, and highlights sixteen weekends of events, family activities, festivals, rodeos and more in Central Alberta.
"We are very pleased that nine municipalities have come together and pooled resources in order to further promote all the great attractions and events we have right here in our own backyard," stated Dean Schweder, Chair, Central Alberta Tourism Committee and Tourism and Economic Development Coordinator, Town of Rocky Mountain House. The nine - committee members include the following municipalities and tourism organizations: Innisfail, Lacombe Tourism, Ponoka, Red Deer County, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, Sylvan Lake, Tourism Red Deer and Wetaskiwin.
From May long weekend to September long weekend, Alberta Sweet 16 promotes a feature event, along with all the other great activities that are going on each weekend in Central Alberta.
The marketing campaign is centered around the website (www.albertasweet16.com), which promotes local events and attractions through a very user-friendly calendar. "Tourism is the fourth largest industry in Alberta and generates over $5 billion in revenues each year. Therefore, it is crucial that Central Alberta remains competitive in this industry and that we continue to send the message that our area is a fantastic tourism destination," concluded Scweder.
