The Central Alberta Tourism Committee officially launched its 2010 marketing campaign. The marketing campaign is again called Alberta Sweet 16, which highlights sixteen weekends of events, family activities, festivals, rodeos and more in Central Alberta.

“We are very pleased again that our 10 members have come together and pooled resources in order to further promote all the great attractions and events we have right here in our own backyard,” stated Dean Schweder, Chair, Central Alberta Tourism Committee and Tourism & Economic Development Coordinator, Town of Rocky Mountain House. The 10 committee members include the following municipalities and tourism organizations; Innisfail, Lacombe, Ponoka, Tourism Red Deer, Red Deer County, Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, Sylvan Lake, and Wetaskiwin.

From May long weekend to September long weekend, Alberta Sweet 16 promotes a feature event, along with all the other great activities that are going on each weekend in Central Alberta. This is the third year for this marketing campaign and last year it won the 2009 Travel Alberta Alto Award for Marketing Partnership.

The marketing campaign is centered on their website (www.albertasweet16.com), which promotes local events and attractions through a very user friendly calendar. This year people will also be able to follow the Alberta Sweet 16 on Facebook. “Tourism is the fourth largest industry in Alberta and generates over $5 billion in revenues each year. Therefore, it is crucial that Central Alberta remains competitive in this industry and that we continue to send the message that our area is a wonderful tourism destination,” concluded Schweder.
