Lakeshore Drive becomes Sylvan Lake’s royal mile
Sylvan Lake: Wednesday, 07 January 2009 11:13
The Town of Sylvan Lake is very excited to announce the completion of a 24’x36’ ice castle situated between the outdoor skating and hockey rinks on Sylvan Lake. At approximately 9 ft. high, public can enter the structure and feel like royalty.
The frozen structure has been made of 292 blocks of ice, weighing in at approximately 58 000 lbs. The castle was constructed by Edmonton sculptor Delayne Corbett who has been working with ice since 1999. His ice sculpting talents have been witnessed in Edmonton at the venues such as the First Night Festival and Ice on Whyte.
The castle adds to the many attractions found in Sylvan Lake over the winter months. This year the community will be hosting a three day pond hockey tournament, the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts and its annual Winterfest celebrations.
