Today, the newly formed Central Alberta Tourism Committee officially launched its 2008 marketing campaign. The marketing campaign is called Alberta Sweet 16, and highlights sixteen weekends of events, family activities, festivals, rodeos and more in Central Alberta.

Gord Bamford’s latest album “Honkytonks And Heartaches” has been honoured with a nomination for a 2008 JUNO in the category “Country Recording Of The Year”. The nomination is a first for the Lacombe, Alberta resident, and represents another page in the success story that has been building since the September release of “Honkytonks And Heartaches”.
Yellowbird nominated for a Juno

Shane Yellowbird, from Hobbema, continues to climb the country ladder and was recently nominated for a Juno. The Juno’s are Canada’s Music awards and Yellowbird who went to school in Ponoka was nominated for country recording of the year for his debut album ‘Life is Calling My Name.’

In fact, 33 of them jumped right into a freezing Sylvan Lake on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Annual Polar Bear Dip. Mother Nature tried her best to cooperate for the day. The sun was shining, but the wind was seriously frosty and blowing with brute force!
