Rocky Mountain House's Parade of Lights
The Christmas season will be kicked off in Yuletide style on Saturday, December 6 as the Rocky Retailers hold their annual “Parade of Lights.” The parade begins at 7 pm, but there will be plenty of other fun on Main Street, including hot dog and hot chocolate stands operated by some local clubs, special retailer Christmas sales, late night shopping and much more.
Another brilliant attraction to behold will be the 2008 Christmas light display at the Alfred von Hollen home, located at 57th Street Close (two blocks west of Pioneer School). Von Hollen will be turning the lights on for the first time on Dec. 6th, and he promises an extra special display with 65,000 LED lights, special yard decorations, music and much more.
Anyone wishing to enter a float in the Parade of Lights should call (403) 845-3601 to book a spot. There is no registration fee, but floats should be in the marshalling area near the tennis courts around 6pm. Organizers also remind float makers that there is only one real Santa Claus in the parade, and they prefer not to have any “fakes” show up, and any floats handing out free candy are asked to have volunteer walkers hand it out because tossing candy is too dangerous.
